OBC Reservation Eligibility

Other Backward Classes (OBC) are socially and educationally backward classes in India. OBCs are distinct from Scheduled Classes (SC) or Scheduled Tribes (ST). The Central Government of India maintains a list of castes/communities to be considered as an OBC. However, only if you belong to Non-Creamy Layer OBC, you will get the reservation in jobs as well as in educational institutions. If you fall under the Creamy Layer of OBC, you will not get the benefit of OBC reservation. You will be treated as General category. Many candidates, even highly educated people, don’t understand the difference properly. Later they find themselves under fix.

Understand the difference

First of all, this creamy and non- creamy layer division does not depend on you. It depends on the parents. By the possibility of permutation and combination, there will be four categories.

  1. Parents working in the private sector
  2. Parents working in government sector
  3. Parents working in PSU
  4. Parents working as Constitutional Authorities
